Painted from an original JMW Turner sketch in the watercolour shades he used.
This picture used a sketch from Turner's 'Helmsley Sketchbook' in Tate Britain alongside a skyscape plan he drew at the same time. Research into the watercolours of the time revealed names and shades no longer available such as Smalt, Weld and Barium Chromate. I have created a paintbox of modern equivalents with the help of paintmakers Winsor and Newton to reproduce these colours and make this unique view possible.
